New program to block stolen cell phones

The Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, presented in Plaza Italia, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo, the new program Line *910 to block stolen cell phones throughout the country. In a press conference, Bullrich explained that with this plan, any victim of theft can immediately disable their line and device, preventing criminals from reselling the device in the illegal market.

According to the official, this new system, active 24 hours a day and seven days a week, provides the possibility to block the phone by calling *910 in case of theft, which prevents criminals from using the line or selling the device in the informal market. Bullrich emphasized the importance of protecting this kind of property, which holds significant value both economically and professionally for individuals.

In her speech, Bullrich underscored that the program was launched in Palermo because it is an area with a high incidence of thefts, facilitated by the presence of rapid transportation means that allow criminals to escape easily. The Minister highlighted the effectiveness of the measure to discourage phone theft, as these devices would lose value in the illegal market when blocked immediately.

Additionally, Bullrich stressed the importance of knowing the IMEI of the mobile phone as an additional preventive measure, as having this information allows for its inclusion on a blacklist to prevent its sale. The Minister announced that new technologies and applications will soon be presented to reinforce the protection of information on mobile devices, offering more solid safeguards for users.
